The region is diverse in flora and fauna as well with 5 different species of rhododendrons and various wildlife. Those who visit the area in spring (mid March to April) will be highly amazed by beauty of rhododendron flowers. In spring, Sherpa festival called "Dumjee"(based on lunar calendar) takes place at Junbeshi monastery. This is a good opportunity to see the monk mask dance (a sacred dance; locally known as Chham) at the monastery courtyard, enjoying the famous Sherpa hospitality and culture. In autumn there is another great festival called "Mani Rimdu"(also based on lunar calendar) takes place at Chiwang monastery in which the monks perform series of the sacred mask dances. Each season of the year has its own beauty so be open to make a trip either of the season. Being away from the busy tourist routes, Pike peak trek definitely provides a magnificent introduction to the pleasures of trekking to the trekkers who venture for journey into this area.
